This is your official check-in. We are now a month into the New Year, how are things going for you? Are you still on track? Or did you fall off? If so, why?

Statistics show that the majority of people who make a New Year's Resolution will give up on it within 4-6 weeks of the New Year, so we understand if you did. But we also want you to know that it doesn't have to be that way.

When it comes to successful implementation of a resolution, it comes down to habit change. If you want it to succeed, you need to make sure that the changes you are planning on making are manageable.

Often times resolutions fail because people try to make too big of changes. They make such a drastic shift in their lifestyle that it's too hard to maintain. It's sustainable for a few weeks, sometimes even a few months, but then the motivation wanes and its just too difficult to keep up.

The key is to make the smallest change possible that you know you'll be able to sustain for as long as you wanted to. Here's an example: Someone who normally gets up at 7:00am makes a resolution to start waking up at 5:00am to go to the gym at 5:30am every morning. What do you think the success of this will be? I'm willing to bet it won't last much more than a few weeks.

Conversely, imagine if this same person decides to wake up at 6:00am and do a 30 minute at home workout. This time its much more likely to stick because it's much more manageable. Then, over time habits can be built upon. In the previous example, once the person feels like their wake up time of 6:00am is super easy, they can try to go to 5:00am and add the gym to their schedule.

The same ideas can be applied to your diet too. If you started a resolution to finally clean up your diet this year, you likely fell off as soon as your first cheat meal hit. Instead, start off with something small that you can master such as bringing your own lunch to work each day. Again, once that habit is fully ingrained, you can continue to layer on additional habits.

If you are still on track, that is awesome. Keep it up, because there is so much year left to achieve your goals. 💪💪 But if not, then don't be afraid to reach out to us. We'd love to chat with you to understand what's going on, what you tried and why it didn't happen.
