The world is a scary place right now. If you watch TV or if you follow any mainstream media (neither of which we recommend, btw), then all you’ll see is terror and destruction. Presidential candidates attacking one another and bashing the other’s supporters. The left vs the right. America against America. Everything centered around politics appears to be dividing us as a country and as a people. And we are so sad and sick of it.
That is why we are vowing to be better. We want to bring people together! Not divide them. We want to invite our community to come together as fellow humans, to learn from each other, to understand each other’s views and experiences, and to celebrate each other and each other’s differences. There is an old adage, “be the change you want to see in the world” and we are set out to do just that.
Starting in October, we will start hosting community workouts where we will seek to bring together the Kenosha community with the hopes of coming together as one. Our goal is to bring together a diverse group of people so that we can meet individuals that are different from us, so that we can venture outside of our bubbles, and learn from people with different backgrounds and experiences than us.
Some of you may be wondering why we are doing this. “You’re a gym, stay in your lane!” Well, yes that is true, but we also feel an obligation to use the unique circumstance that we happen to have, and that is Movement. You see, there is something magical that happens when you do a hard workout with others. You know how hard the workout was for you, and you know it was just as hard for the people around you. You start to build respect for the people you are working out with. You become united through movement. You think to yourself, “I just went through hell, and they did it with me” so you begin to see what people are really made of deep in their hearts. “She’s tough, gritty, and didn’t give up. She’s someone I can count on.” It's kind of like the bond you had with your teammates if you ever played a team sport. You begin to trust each other, and you begin to build true rapport with one another. Because you trust each other, you’re able to have real conversations without feeling attacked. You’re able to discuss differences of opinions and different viewpoints. You’re able to understand people who think differently than you do. And that's exactly what we are after here. We want to stop the division and to start seeing the people around us for the humans that they are.
United by Movement. We see this stuff every day within the 4 walls of our gym. Lifelong friendships are forged inside our gym, and it’s all because hard workouts (movement) bring people together. And that is our goal for greater Kenosha. In the wake of one of the most traumatic weeks of our city’s existence, we want to do our part in uniting our people. We want to start healing, and rebuilding our community STRONGER. We want to forge a community who respects each other's opinions and celebrates each other’s differences. We want Kenosha to come back stronger and BETTER than it was a month ago. And we can’t wait to get started!
